SKINCARE & SUN

Taking care of your skin is essential in maintaining good skin health at every age. Men and women of all ages, starting as early as pre-adolescence should start thinking about creating a simple skincare program that you can maintain and build upon over time. At every age its important to integrate the 3 essential components responsible for your overall skin health.

  1. CLEANSER
  2. MOISTURIZER WITH SUNSCREEN (minimum 30SPF)
  3. ACTIVE TREATMENT PRODUCT (ie. Vitamin C, Retinol, growth factors, acne product, brown spot corrector…)

Physician-dispensed skincare is quite different than what you can purchase in your local drugstore, online or from an infomercial. Health Canada has legal restrictions on the levels of “active” ingredients in products that are sold to mass retailers. Alternatively, because you are given the appropriate advice and follow-up care with physicians, skincare that is offered through our experts’ office can provide more substantial treatment results due to the presence and potency of active ingredients. This is great news, since it allows our specialists who understand the anatomy of your skin to create a unique skincare program based on concerns, needs, lifestyle and skin type. The need to make an appointment is completely up to you. Our medical skincare specialists are available on site without an appointment to answer all of your questions during our hours of operation, or choose to peruse our online store.

WHY IS SUN PROTECTION SO IMPORTANT?

Most people know the sun has damaging effects on the skin that are both medically dangerous, but also aesthetically damaging. For a young person who chooses to go out in the sun without the appropriate sunscreen, the risk of skin cancer seems improbable; or so far into the future that you think, “I can worry about that in later years.”

However, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, there has been an alarming rise in the incidence of melanoma skin cancer amongst those aged 18-39. In fact, rates of this potentially deadly cancer rose 800% in young women and 400% amongst young men.

It’s important to know that even if you’ve spent years tanning, or had multiple burns, it’s never too late to start using an effective sunscreen, along with an active treatment product to help reverse the damage. Sun and UV exposure is present 365 days a year, even when it’s cloudy and grey. So a light moisturizer with SPF that becomes a part of your daily routine is an excellent investment to keep you protected.
